Optical Films
MACtac offers a range of self adhesive optical films widely used in various steps of optical lens production, such as
Lens grinding
Lens polishing and smoothing
Lens edging (edging pads)
Lens Grinding :
This step gives the lens its corrective effect by "carving" the concave side with a diamond head. The lens is either "organic" (plastic) 75 % of the total market, or "mineral" (glass) 25 % of the market.
The single sided tapes of the Optical Film Range OF 2428, OF 2429, OF 2430, OF 2475 have been especially designed for the fastening and protection of lenses during the forming stages;
Lens Polishing and Smoothing :
The lens is mounted onto a holding device thanks to a lens saver tape which is applied manually onto the convex side of the lens. It is classically a blue tape which is self-adhesive on the lens side and heat activated on the holding device side.
MACtac MACbond B 1167 is the ideal product for this operation
Lens Edging :
After grinding and polishing / smoothing, the lens is "deblocked" from the alloy part by being simply knocked off, or by being immersed into hot water (the alloy melts). Then the tape is peeled off manually from the lens.
For this application, MACtac has developed a double sided foam MACmount ML2780.
