Lens polishing and smoothing

After grinding, the lens must be carefully polished in order to give it a perfectly transparent finish. Polishing/ smoothing is conducted with polishing pads. The type of polishing pads used varies according to the nature of the lens (organic/mineral).
It is classically a daisy-shaped die cut piece of flock material laminated on the reverse with a double-sided tape. The tape's function is to mount the pad onto its support.

What is expected from the tape ?

. Must adhere perfectly to the back of the polishing material and to the metallic holding device

. Must be resistant to the slurries
. Must peel off easily and cleanly from the holding device
